about 1 year ago by Michael Lebowitz @ See It Market

about 1 year ago by Michele Schneider @ See It Market

On August 1st as many cheered the rise in GDP, partly because consumer spending is 70% of the GDP, another agency did not cheer at all. With Government Debt to the GDP ratio super high, coupled with high interest rates, Fitch was not having it. They see this as a huge stress on the economy.  In […] The post Granddad Russell, Grandma Retail and Grand Debt appeared first on See It Market.

HVS: Q2 2023 Homeownership and Vacancy Rates; Rental Vacancy Rates Increased YoY
about 1 year ago by Calculated Risk @ Calculated Risk

The Census Bureau released the Residential Vacancies and Homeownership report for Q2 2023 today. The results of this survey were significantly distorted by the pandemic in 2020. This report is frequently mentioned by analysts and the media to track household formation, the homeownership rate, and the homeowner and rental vacancy rates.  However, there are serious questions about the accuracy of this survey. This survey might show the trend, but I wouldn't rely on the absolute numbers. Analysts probably shouldn't use the HVS to estimate the excess vacant supply or household formation, or rely on the homeownership rate, except as a guide to the trend. National vacancy rates in the second quarter 2023 were 6.3 percent for rental housing and 0.7 percent for homeowner housing. The rental vacancy rate was higher than the rate in the second...

Heavy Truck Sales Hit New Record High; Up 18% Year-over-year in July
about 1 year ago by Calculated Risk @ Calculated Risk

The BEA released their estimate of vehicle sales for July today. This graph shows heavy truck sales since 1967 using data from the BEA. The dashed line is the July 2023 seasonally adjusted annual sales rate (SAAR). Heavy truck sales really collapsed during the great recession, falling to a low of 180 thousand SAAR in May 2009.  Then heavy truck sales increased to a new record high of 570 thousand SAAR in April 2019. <img alt="Heavy Truck Sales" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoeOqjbpmgAaFsVWJUFXG8cRAQ0XrpndQevlbEqWj8h1LWN5cutvkJ6SNs2NkhySM_4olLY0x8YB7ozx4oNmAWrMMsRLJqH0HilcN2Uz4xdZ...
