From the NAR: Pending Home Sales Waned 10.2% in SeptemberPending home sales trailed off for the fourth consecutive month in September, according to the National Association of REALTORS®. All four major regions recorded month-over-month and year-over-year declines in transactions.The Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI), a forward-looking indicator of home sales based on contract signings, slumped 10.2% to 79.5 in September. Year-over-year, pending transactions slid by 31.0%. An index of 100 is equal to the level of contract activity in 2001."Persistent inflation has proven quite harmful to the housing market," said NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun. The BEA released the Personal Income and Outlays report for June: Personal income increased $78.9 billion (0.4 percent) in September, according to estimates released today by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Disposable personal income (DPI) increased $71.3 billion (0.4 percent) and personal consumption expenditures (PCE) increased $113.0 billion (0.6 percent).The PCE price index increased 0.3 percent. Excluding food and energy, the PCE price index increased 0.5 percent.
