Bad News Is the Good News That Flips Bears to Bulls
about 1 year ago by Dr. Duru Diagnoses Markets @ Dr. Duru Diagnoses Markets

Bad economic news in the form of weaker than expected job openings sent bond yields lower. Lower bond yields encouraged buyers. This sequence worked for today. The Friday job's report offers the market an opportunity to confirm or invalidate this flip from bearish to bullish sentiment.I was expecting to get a major buying opportunity on a trip to oversold trading territory. BUT, the day's slew of 50-day moving average (DMA) breakouts suggest that opportunity will not be forthcoming!Once again, I use #swingtradebot to explore the market's main technical headlines.See https://www.drduru.com/onetwentytwo for more detailed market narratives.Cover credit: "The Skeptical Chihuahua, Taipei" by Yiie is licensed under CC BY 2.0. Weak rallies carry a bearish overtone
over 1 year ago by noreply@blogger.com (Declan Fallon) @ Fallond Picks

Buyers make a reapparance after an extended period of selling. However, where in late spring and early summer any gain helped fuel a rally, this time, sellers have control of the market so that any buying will raise doubts as to its capability to dig the market out of its slump. In the case of the Russell 2000 ($IWM), we had a continuation of the bounce off the 200-day MA, although today's gain came off lower volume. The real killer is the relative underpeformance of the index against the S&P; although, in a six-month timeframe is all a bit scrappy.  While bears have an advantage, I would see enough here for bulls to take the index into a test of (soon to be) converged 20-day and 50-day MAs.

He revisits his core methodology by showing the ultimate goal of catching longer-term trends and how money and position management can occasionally make that possible.
